PAID A SHORT VISIT TO THE DGA (DIRECTORS GUILD OF AMERICA) TODAY
VISUALLY SCANNED THE FRAMED BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOS OF D W GRIFFITH DISPLAYING MAXIMUM EXUBERANCE HANDS LIFTED IN THE AIR, WITH THE CAST AND CREW WATCHING AND AIMING SO TO PLEASE...GEORGE KUGOR WHO I REMEMBER SEEING AT AFI IN 75 AS A GUEST SPEAKER WELL GROOMED AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND...AUDREY HEPBURN STANDING QUIET AND STILL PROBABLY CONCENTRATING ON HER CHARACTER LOOKING BEAUTIFUL WAITING (NOT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS)...GORDON PARKS SR SITTING BEHIND THE CAMERA OF "THE LEARNING TREE" SINCE HE WAS A CINEMATOGRAPHER AS WELL AS THE DIRECTOR...SIMILAR TO JOHN AVILDSEN IN THE FIRST AND ARGUABLY THE BEST "ROCKY"...CINEMATOGRAPHER'S USUALLY SIT BEHIND THE CAMERA JOHN AVILDSEN HAD STATED ADDING, THAT HE FELT IT WAS THE APPROPRIATE PLACE TO BE IF YOU'RE DIRECTING A FILM...INTERESTING I AGREE, AS LONG AS YOU'RE A CINAMTOGRAPHER DIRECTING THE FILM, OTHER WISE YOU BEING A DIRECTOR ARE CLOSE AT HAND TO BE ABLE TO CONFER WITH YOUR CINEMATOGRAPHER, (AND EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT, YOUR ACTRESSSS AND ACTORS, WHEN AND IF THEY NEED YOU) WHO USUALLY SITS BEHIND THE CAMERA...AND, IDA LUPINO, DIRECTING, A FILM WITH THE TWO MALE ACTORS LISTENING INTENTLY, THIS PHOTO IN PARTICULAR WAS IMPORTANT TO ME, THE HURDLES SHE MUST HAVE HAD TO CLEAR TO GET TO THAT POINT, BEING FEMALE AND CAPABLE...QUITE A BRIEF VISIT BUT VERY WORTH WHILE.
THE LOBBY OF THE DGA IS FILLED WITH INCREDIBLE PHOTOS AND IS WORTH THE VISIT, TREAT YOURSELF EVEN IF YOU HAD TO PAY, WHICH YOU DON'T, IT WOULD BE MONEY WELL SPENT TO VISIT FOR AWHILE.
HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY, TAKE CARE.
